CONCORD HQ

Rasu War Room

When Stygian finally decided to end this civil war once and for all, it did so with a speed and comprehensiveness that overwhelmed Concord’s ability to witness or even track.

The Ymyrath Field incursions had, for a time, provoked the desired reaction. All sides had pulled back, exerted caution and reassessed. For days, the board hardly changed. Emerald and Crimson sniped at each other along the edges while Stygian retrenched and waited, perhaps contemplating what else Concord might be capable of doing to interfere with its plans.

Then everything changed all at once. A tidal wave surged outward from deep within Stygian territory, almost on the border of the Erebus Void, to sweep across the regions Emerald and Crimson controlled in a stunning conflagration of violence. Battles were measured in minutes rather than hours or days. In many cases, Miriam barely had time to order surveillance of a battle and pull up the images in the War Room before a fight was concluded, Stygian always the victor.

She’d put Commander Xing on alert the instant the Stygian offensive began, but she never ordered the use of a single Ymyrath Field. There was no longer any point.

The weapon had been a supremely useful tool for slowing the pace of the civil war and strategically disrupting the various factions’ maneuvers, but it could do nothing against this tsunami of aggression on Stygian’s part. The Rasu progenitor had decided to take control of its wayward children and bring them to heel, and a few potshots by her quiet, furtive weapon would not slow such an expansive armada down. So instead, she asked David to devise a plan to pivot the Ymyrath Field deployment scenarios with an eye toward how they might save a Concord stellar system in the opening seconds of a Rasu attack.

Sixty hours after the renewed offensive began, Stygian controlled every Rasu galaxy in the Laniakea and Shapley superclusters.
